Why Train in
PREPARE-ENRICH the Marriage Savers Way?
1. Be certified to train
additional marriage mentors at your leisure:
At the conclusion of the seminar, Mentor
Supervisors are certified to train additional marriage mentors in
their home church, using the new P/E Resource Kit, which
includes teaching DVDs by the creators of PREPARE/ENRICH, making
future trainings easy.

Give your practice or your church the best with the quality features
of this customized assessment ”tool.”
2. Take advantage of a customized
assessment: Just what is customization? It means that
inventory issues are tailored to each couple’s relationship, making
mentoring thorough and meaningful for couples preparing for a
healthy, lifelong marriage.
3. Couple mentoring emphasized:
Marriage Savers pioneered the concept of marriage mentoring
in churches. Most PREPARE-ENRICH seminars target therapists and
pastors. Marriage Savers highlights the power of trained marriage
mentors as well. Thorough hands-on training, using the P/E
Marriage Mentor Manual, and role-playing of mentors and
mentorees is emphasized.
4. Proven and effective:
Marriage Savers has trained 4,000 Mentor Couples nationwide. A
study of one church trained in 1992 showed that 93% of couples
mentored - using an inventory, remain married – far different from
the well-known 50% dissolution rate. Studies reveal that 10% of
couples break up after taking a relationship assessment; an
additional 10% decide not to proceed down the aisle if mentors
facilitate the inventory and teach communication and conflict
resolution skills. These are avoided divorces or unhappy unions.
5. New mentoring “tools:”
The recently published Marriage Savers-PREPARE ENRICH
Couple’s Workbook includes 2 exercises on cohabitation and one
on chastity. Currently two-thirds of premarital couples cohabit.
Yet, churches have not known how to address the daunting issue of
living together. Marriage Savers teaches Marriage Mentors how to
deal with this sensitive issue in a positive way.
6. Marriage Savers Webinar Seminars are
Inexpensive: Marriage Savers charges $150 per church for 4
couples plus materials – a bargain for congregations who are
particularly budget conscious these days. Local P/E Trainers
typically charge more than that for an individual.

Some of the Outstanding Features of PREPARE/ENRICH:
1. Customization: Each
demographic issue generates a unique customization of inventory
items that are tailored to each couple. Customization considers
cohabitation, children from previous marriages, faith backgrounds,
issues pertinent to couples age 55+ for example.
2. Attractive, easy to understand
graphics: The Facilitator’s Report of each couple
includes graphics and written descriptions of the couple’ Strengths
and Growth Areas for a dozen categories, such as Relationship Roles,
Spiritual Beliefs, Communication, Financial Management and Conflict
Resolution, to name a few.
3. New Categories:
“Relationship Dynamics” measures Assertiveness, Self Confidence,
Avoidance and Partner Dominance. “Commitment and Abuse:” Commitment
measures how committed each partner is to the relationship and how
open each is to doing whatever it takes to improve the
relationship. Is there abuse in either family of origin? Has
either partner experienced substance abuse or physical abuse? Is
pornography a problem?
4. Sophisticated Yardsticks:
Unlike other inventories, P/E uses a five-point scale, ranging
from Strongly Disagree to Strongly Agree, offering a more nuanced
comparison than the typical three-point measures (Agree, Undecided
and Disagree). Also, results of the assessment are clustered in
helpful sub-categories: Positive Couple Agreement, Disagreement,
Indecision, and Special Focus. Also included is a summary of each
partner’s responses on each item and a description of the couple’s
Strength and Growth Areas.
