Marriage Savers Travel Schedule: 2008

Readers are invited to attend any of the following events. However, scheduled events are subject to change. Please call the contact person listed below for fresh information on place, time and event.

The following is the schedule for training and Community Marriage Policy signings by Marriage Savers® Co Chairs Mike & Harriet McManus.

Normally we will train Mentor Couples, clergy and counselors from 6:30 to 10 p.m. on Fridays and from 8:30 to 5 p.m. on Saturday. If there is a signing of a Community Marriage Policy, it typically is at 1 p.m. on the same Friday as the training. Check with local leaders for details regarding time and place. A Marriage Savers training covers proven interventions at five stages of the marital life cycle: Preparation, Enrichment, Restoration, Reconciliation and Stepfamilies. Details of these interventions are explained below the schedule. We also meet with pastors who are considering creating a Community Marriage Policy. We conduct Marriage Enrichment Weekends for couples and Restoration Marriage Ministry training for couples whose own marriages were once in crisis on how they could mentor couples in current crisis.

  • May 30 - 31 Loudoun County, VA: Clergy/Mentor training. Contact: Rev. Tom Simmons, St. Peter's Episcopal Church, Purcellville, VA Call: 540-338-7307; email: office@stpetes.net

  • July 2-3, San Francisco: At the national Smart Marriages Conference which attracts 2,500 marriage educators, Mike and Harriet will offer a two-day pre-conference National Training to Create a Marriage Savers Congregation and a Community Marriage Policy that can be attended by any clergy or lay couples interested in creating a church that can virtually wipe out divorce.
    • Some nationally known creators of major innovative ministries will participate in the Institute:
      • David and Claudia Arp, creators of “10 Great Dates;”
      • Rev. Dick Dunn, who fashioned the Stepfamily Support Group that saves 80% of stepfamilies who normally divorce at a 70% rate;
      • Joe & Michelle Williams, who pioneered Reconciling God’s Way, which helps more than half of separated couples to reconcile.
    • Other speakers in their Institute have implemented these and other reforms that have virtually eliminated divorce in their churches and slashed county-wide divorce rates by 24% to 70%:
      • Richard Albertson, Live the Life Ministries in Tallahassee,
      • Rev. Jeffrey Meyers of Christ Lutheran Church and LeRoy Sullivan of Bread of Life Outreach Ministries in Christ.
    • On July 4-6 Mike & Harriet will also lead two 90 minute workshops on Community Marriage Policies and Faith-Based Answers to Cohabitation, based on their new book, Living Together: Myths, Risks & Answers.
    • Finally, Mike will lead a workshop with David Levy and David Prince, two attorneys on legal reforms that could slash divorce rates in half. In addition
    • Marriage Savers will host two Roundtables for CMP Organizers, so activists around the country can get to know one another, and to bring them up to date on what Marriage Savers has learned over the past year.

In addition, work is underway to hold CMP signings and trainings in New York City, Cherokee Grove, TN, and Southern New Jersey. Firm dates have not been set.
